Golf was first played on Penn Common in 1893, the year after the South Staffordshire Golf Club was formed. Over the years Penn has acquired not only the freehold of the golf course from the Duke of Sutherland, but all of the grazing rights for heavy beasts once held by 'Commoners'. Safe to say that the acquisition of the last of the grazing rights means that cattle no longer roam the golf course. This has enabled Course Manager Paul Mills and his staff to make significant improvements to what was already a fine golf course. Down the years specimen trees have been planted to supplement nature's bountiful supply of oak, birch, and other deciduous varieties. Lush fairways now complement the slick greens for which Penn has always been renowned, and a few carefully placed bunkers will test any golfer's ability to manage their way around the course.
A challenging heathland golf course set in beautiful, picturesque surroundings await you at Penn Golf Club. Visitors find it hard to believe that we are located just 2 miles from Wolverhampton City Centre, yet placed in a beautiful rural setting.
